“I remember being very surprised and impressed with the variety and rarity of so many trees the first time I visited the Hidden Forest Botanical Reserve. I was keenly interested in learning everything I could about trees and was delighted to see dawn redwoods thriving and to learn about the rare and endangered Glyptostrobus pensilis, perhaps the largest in North America, growing along side swamp cypresses.

I also remember the first time that I visited during the height of the rhododendron bloom and being absolutely stunned with the glorious display of countless shades of a myriad of colors and sizes of blossoms. This was clearly a beautifully designed garden.

I am pleased and happy to see that Mike Boss, the current owner, is doing all he can to ensure that this significant and impressive reserve thrive well into the future for future generations. I hope the community of Sonoma County and interested plant lovers will join with him in securing this treasure’s future.”

“I can vividly remember the first time I visited the Sonoma Horticultural Gardens/Nursery back in the 1990s.  It was like discovering an enormous secret garden. The various pathways would lead you to magical areas all over the property.  Whether it be crossing a bridge over a riverbed of enormous Gunnera plants that made me feel like I had been transported back to the age of the dinosaurs or walking around the lake in the spring with all the various trees in bloom cascading over the water. Every area felt so unique and special.

Whenever I have guests come and visit from out of town, I always add a trip to Sonoma Horticultural to the list of things to see and do during their stay.  Everyone I ever take there is also so deeply moved by the amount of love and work that goes into the creation of this gorgeous environment! It is always such a treasured experience just to be there.”

“Some 34 years ago, we lived near the Hidden Forest Botainical Reserve. I would visit after work and experience life-giving rejuvenation. I would sit quietly on the bench overlooking the pond. Truly, an incredible gift that I could experience such beauty and aliveness. It quickly became one of my favorite Sonoma County gems.

I’ve brought many friends to the reserve, to share the unique beauty.

I’m very grateful to Mike as he continues to steward this oasis.”
